Leather looks great but demands attention

Leather collars and leashes are beautiful when new. The problem is that they need ongoing care. Salt water degrades leather quickly. Mud stains it. You cannot throw it in the washing machine. After a Cape Town beach day, leather needs wiping, conditioning, and drying properly or it cracks, stiffens, and starts to smell. That is fine if you want a collar that stays indoors. RPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) is made from post-consumer plastic bottles. The material is turned into webbing that is lightweight, colourfast, and fully machine washable. The environmental case is straightforward

Leather production involves tanning chemicals, significant water use, and animal agriculture. RPET takes plastic bottles that would otherwise end up in landfills and turns them into something functional. Neither material is perfect, but RPET is measurably lighter in its environmental footprint and keeps existing waste out of the system.

Durability 

We test everything in salt water, sand, mud, and sun. RPET webbing holds colour, maintains strength, and does not corrode the hardware around it. Leather in the same conditions needs regular maintenance to avoid deterioration. For dogs that live active, outdoor lives, RPET performs better with less effort.

The price difference matters too
