Cape Town's Best Dog-Friendly Hikes (and How to Tread Lightly)
At Fetch, we're all about adventure and the outdoors, especially when our furry besties are along for the ride. Cape Town is packed with stunning trails and nature escapes that make tails wag and hearts happy. But here's the thing: exploring these beautiful spaces with your pup shouldn't cost the earth. That’s why we’re sharing some of our favourite dog-friendly hikes in the Mother City, along with eco-friendly tips to help you leave nothing behind but pawprints.
1. Newlands Forest
This shaded haven on the slopes of Table Mountain is perfect for early morning strolls or weekend wanders. The forest floor is soft underpaw and full of exciting smells. Dogs are allowed off-leash in certain areas, so just make sure your recall game is on point.
Eco tip: Always pack compostable poop bags (like ours!) and carry out all waste. Even in the wild, litter isn’t welcome.
2. Silvermine Nature Reserve (via Ou Kaapse Weg)
Silvermine treats you to epic views of fynbos, fresh mountain air, and a tranquil reservoir for a post-hike dip. Dogs are welcome on lead, and you’ll need a SANParks permit—an easy trade for well-kept trails and thriving biodiversity.
Eco tip: Stay on marked trails to protect the local plant life. Don’t forget a reusable water bowl to keep your pup hydrated without the plastic waste.
3. Cecilia Forest
Just below Kirstenbosch Gardens, this trail is calm, cool, and a local favourite. It’s great for warmer days thanks to its shade and natural water features for your dog to splash in.
Eco tip: Opt for a leash or harness made from recycled materials. Our RPET gear is made for muddy paws and forest romps.
4. Noordhoek Beach
For high-energy pups who love to zoom, this beach is a dream. It’s open, spacious, and perfect for off-leash fun with breathtaking sea views.
Eco tip: Avoid trampling dunes and keep dogs clear of seabirds. Pack smart with stainless steel bottles and plastic-free snack wraps.
5. Deer Park, Vredehoek
Close to the city bowl, this spot is a quick escape into nature. It connects with Table Mountain National Park and suits every type of walker. Plus, your dog might make a few new friends.
Eco tip: Set the standard—clean up after your dog, greet others with a smile, and snap a photo of your pup rocking their Fetch gear.
Let’s Make Every Walk Count
Hiking with your dog isn’t just exercise—it’s connection. To nature, to each other, and to a more conscious way of living. Whether you're on a forest trail, sandy beach, or mountain path, do it the Fetch way: with joy, intention, and care for the planet.
